Go Back in Time

If history is your passion, we have you covered this October!

Take a step back in time at the Lord Stirling Manor site at The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center to celebrate New Jersey's Colonial Heritage with the 1770's Festival. Children will enjoy hayrides, clay crafts, stenciling and toy making. Be a part of the action by trying on colonial costumes or having your photo taken and restrained in a wooden stock before all to see. This FREE event takes place October 11-12.

Later in the month, experience nearly thirty historical sites in Somerset County at Somerset County's Weekend Journey Through the Past. Sites from several historic periods will open their doors for tours, events and exciting activities that transport you and your traveling companions to another era! Visiting with kids? Don't miss the brand new Kids/Family Detective activity, What in the World is That?, which will complement the various special exhibits, programs, and tours planned at each historic site.

The tour is conveniently separated into three separate mini tours for ease of visiting; Northern, Central and Southern Somerset County. All sites will be open on Saturday from 10am-5pm and Sunday 12pm-4pm. Admission and parking are FREE, and scenic route plans are available at http://www.co.somerset.nj.us/schistoryweekend/toursmaps.htm.
