Winter Arts Collection
During the cold of month of January, head indoors and take in Somerset County's local arts scene.
The Watchung Arts Center will be displaying art work from New Jersey residents ages 4-17 on Wednesdays and Thursdays in January from 12-3pm. The art is meant to promote and encourage young artists, and a reception and awards ceremony will take place on January 6 at 12pm.
On January 12, join the Center for adult improv! The Improvable, a cast of hilarious characters, have been performing in front of adults and families for nine years at the WAC. Each show is new, refreshing and outrageously fun. Show begins at 8pm and tickets cost $8. To purchase tickets please click here or call 908-753-0190.
The Theater at Raritan Valley Community College offers a varied repertoire of entertainment throughout the year, and this month they host four shows for all ages. For children ages 5 and older, Two Beans Productions will be performing Ramona Quimby, a play about an animated elementary school student's wild adventure. Third grader Ramona has delighted young readers for over 50 years through the books of Beverly Cleary, a Newbery Medal Winner. Shows take place on January 27 at 1pm and 3:30pm; tickets cost $10 and $12.
For families, Tom Chapin and Friends will be appearing at the Theatre on January 25 at 7pm. Tom Chapin, three-time Grammy winner; will perform a mix of his family's music, folk classics, and play the didgeridoo. At the Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster, the exhibit "Romantic Realism" will be displayed from January 7 to February 16. The exhibit is curated by renowned New Jersey Painter Mel Leipzig, and highlights works by Daniel Finaldi, Linda Pochesci, and Kyle Stevenson, Leipzig's former students. As Romantic Realists, the artists of this exhibit use the structure of visual realism to express deeply felt and personal emotional states. An opening reception and curator discussion will take place on January 11 at 6pm.
