Winter in the Parks

Somerset County Parks will play host to two fun and entertaining events this season; Frost Fest at the Environmental Education Center and the Holiday Festival at Lord Stirling Stable.

The Somerset County Park Commission in Basking Ridge will be hosting its 3rd Annual Frost Fest from December 1 until December 16. Highlights will include a dog sled demonstration and Hibernation Masquerade, as well as an indoor exhibit showcasing trees and snowmen decorated by Somerset County residents. Educational exhibits include snowshoe hikes, naturalist-led nature programs for all ages, and so much more.

Many FrostFest activities are free or are available for a small fee which will be used to support the programs and activities at the Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center. For more information please call 908-766-2489.

On December 8 and 9, Santa will taking time out of his busy schedule to visit Lord Stirling Stable. Children will begin their adventure with a hayride to see Santa Claus and can then enjoy several other activities such as pony rides, and decorating ornaments.

For the adults, there will be a silent auction benefitting the School Horse Retirement Fund.

The festival will be open from 10am-4pm both Saturday and Sunday. Admission, parking hayrides and pony rides are FREE. For more information please call 908-766-5955.
