August in the Parks
Are your kids complaining of being bored this summer? Look no further than the Somerset County Park Commission!
If science is your kid's thing, or they just enjoy being in the great outdoors, send them to the Environmental Educational Center at Lord Stirling Park. The Park Commission is offering summer science programs for children ages 10-12 throughout the month of August. One and two-week sessions are a great way for kids to explore natural wonders that exist right in their own backyard while learning to respect and preserve the environment. Activities include swimming, hiking, boating, gardening, and a wide variety of day trips relating to each week’s unique theme.
For families, the Park Commission is once again offering "The County Caper," a two-day, family-friendly event that takes participants all over the parks of Somerset County. Compete for prizes in this local version of The Amazing Race that requires participants to perform tasks or find hidden clues that will lead you on to the next destination! The Park Commission has also created "The County Caper Accelerated," a one-day, fast-paced version of the game for adults fifteen and older.
Friday Nights at the Drive-In Movies will host its final evening of outdoor film on August 3rd with We Bought a Zoo.
And of course the Summer Concert Series rolls on this month.
